The Ekiti State wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a coalition of civil society groups yesterday thronged the streets of Ado Ekiti to celebrate the return of President Muhammadu Buhari from medical vacation in London.

The road leading to various offices and other parts of the state were locked down due to restricted vehicular movement, as members of the APC and its civil society collaborators caused a stampede in the state capital.

The mammoth crowd, which comprised party supporters, civil society groups, artisans and Okada riders, marched from the Oke Iyinmi to the party Secretariat, chanting songs in derision of Governor Ayodele Fayose and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The placards carrying celebrants created a traffic gridlock between Ijigbo and Ajilosun area, making commuters to wait for several hours before having right of way.

APC Acting Chairman in the state, Kemi Olaleye, who addressed the rally, said God has shamed those wishing the President dead, saying Buhari’s return would rekindle the war against corruption, terrorism and agitations for secession.

Olaleye appealed to Nigerians on behalf of Fayose over his unguarded utterances regarding the health of the President.

She used the opportunity to allay the fears of some party faithful who expressed concern that the APC primary in the 2018 governorship poll might be manipulated, assuring that the best candidate would emerge through a free and fair process.

She cited the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, who went to Abuja to welcome the president back to Nigeria, saying, “That was a show of maturity. Why is our governor not learning from this?

He said that only God can decide the life expectancy of human beings and not any mortal, as he rejoiced with Nigerians, particularly members of the APC across the nation, describing President Buhari’s return as a victory of light over the forces of evil.

The Civil Society groups also expressed hapiness over the president’s safe return, saying the anxiety generated by his health status terrified Nigerians, particularly those in support of his anti-graft war.

Besides, Chairman of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP), Tunji Ogunlola, praised Nigerians for praying for Buhari’s quick recovery, pointing out that their prayers helped the medical team to achieve success in the treatment of the president.
