Tom Ford, and Nigeria’s Yemisi Olatunji at the weekend won the male and female titles respectively of the maiden Chamberlain Squash Open (CSO) Championship held at the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja.
Britain’s number one squash player, Tom Ford, and Nigeria’s Yemisi Olatunji at the weekend won the male and female titles respectively of the maiden Chamberlain Squash Open (CSO) Championship held at the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja.
Although he was given a tough challenge by Nigeria’s Babatunde Ajagbe in the final game, Ford, ranked 165 by the Professional Squash Association (PSA), took the tournament’s trophy by winning all his four sets right from the beginning of the competition.
The Briton defeated Ajagbe in the final by 11-6, 11-9, 11-2 and 11-5. The hundred of spectators attracted to the final game by the exploits of the players in the earlier round, were not disappointed as the players served beautiful strokes fr45om beginning of the contest to the end.
Ajagbe, ranked 206 on the PSA chart, started strongly against Ford, but lost his verve as the game progressed.
In the women’s category, Yemisi Olatunji, who is ranked number 193 in the PSA ranking, defeated Udeme James 11-7, 11-6, 11-9 to cinch the title. For his efforts, Ford received the $1, 805 prize money, while Ajagbe got $1,235.
