A Coalition of civil society organisations, the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has canvassed a proactive legislative process to hasten the passage of the Whistleblower Protection Bill.
The group’s Executive Director, Mr. Auwal Musa Rafsajani, made the call yesterday in an interview with journalists in Asaba. He said the bill would discourage victimisation of whistleblowers and strengthen the anti-corruption fight.
“The legislative arm of government and the judiciary cannot afford to be lukewarm or un-supportive of the corruption fight at this critical time of our national development,” he said. Rafsanjani said: “The effort of nation building remains a lifelong task and ridding the country of all vestiges of corrupt individuals.”
It is also a task for all the civil society group, the media and the critical mass of society to ensure that due track is maintained of all public officers that demand responsive and accountable governance from individuals who hold office in trust for citizens.”
