Former Abia State Deputy Governor, Dr. Chris Akomas has said that all states in the country are potentially viable as long as people are there and can transform their available resources into things that have value.

Akomas who spoke to journalists after he was honored with ‘Distinguished Manager’ award by the Nigerian Institute of Management NIM (Chartered) at its 2017 South East Zonal Summit held recently in Umuahia, Abia state capital, Akomas, said that it is determination and perseverance that are needed by the people of a state to transform their resources and become viable.

He said the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State is very active and viable and that with respect to future elections,  “ APC is doing what should be done to win the next election and produce the next Abia State governor”.

Earlier while addressing the summit during which the Ikwuano/Umuahia Constituency representative in the House of Representatives, Sam Onuigbo was similarly honored, the NIM President and Council Chairman , Emeritus professor Munzali  Jibril  said that NIM  zonal summits have remained one of the easiest ways of keeping its members abreast of latest developments in the management profession and making the Institutes’s presence felt in the country.

On the theme of the summit: “Corporate Responsibility and Ethics for Sustainable Management in the Southeast, which he said was appropriate and relevant, The NIM President said “ corporate social responsibility is designed to aid an organization’s mission as well as serve as a guide to what the company represents for its consumers”.

Zonal Chairman, Prof Ogochukwu Ibeneme, who described the theme as very apt considering the state of social life of Nigerians especially those in the southeast zone, said we are blessed by God with natural and human resources that are of high values while the happenings in the south east states are worrisome to any sound mind. The natural endowment of the state’s are mismanaged and many people, especially youths, are unemployed and many have resorted to kidnapping, armed robbery, prostitution among others.”
