As part of efforts to prevent environmental degradation and climate change, which is daily becoming a global threat, the Rotary Club of Lagos Island, District 9110, has commenced its Project ‘Haryali Mega Tree Plantation’ with several trees planted in three adopted schools.

The schools include: Dr. Teslim Elias School, Lagos Island, Union Baptist School and Dr. Teslim Elias Handicraft Centre. The adopted schools would be renovated in phases within the next five years.

President of the club, Rotn. Sanjeev Tandon, said the project is part of the mandate of the Rotary International President, Ian H.S Riseley, who emphasised on the need to protect the environment as part of Rotary’s goal of sustainable service, with the theme “Making a Difference”.

Head teachers of the schools said the gesture was a relief, as the schools need urgent intervention to be protected from the climate, hoodlums and robbers.
