Unforgiveness: Take out the poison

Archbishop (Dr.) Olanrewaju OBEMBE

Mark 11:26 “But IF YE DO NOT FORGIVE, neither will your Father which is in heaven FORGIVE YOUR TRESPASSES.” Proverbs 10:12 “Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love COVERETH ALL SINS.”

From medical sciences, we are told that certain chemicals called “Poison” are injurious to our health. Chemical poison affects the flow of human blood negatively. These injurious chemicals cannot co-habit, as they stop the flow of blood in human anatomy and sometimes cause death. In real life experiences, offences are usually very hurting and injurious. People hurt us and do us severe damages. As long as we live here on earth, we will be offended and we will offend some people, too. JESUS said in Luke 17:1 “Then said He unto the disciples, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE but that OFFENCES WILL COME: but woe unto him, through whom they come!” Offences will surely come. How we handle offences determine how God will respond to us. Unforgiveness is a terrible circuit breaker in our fellowship with God.

In the eyes of God, we were all sinners, who could not save or deliver ourselves from our trespasses, but God sent His Anointed Son to cancel our sins and our debts. We were INDIVIDUALLY OWING GOD BILLIONS OF DOLLARS, but when we could not pay, God in His infinite mercy wrote off and cancelled our debts through the Blood of His Son JESUS CHRIST. Matthew 18:28 “But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellow servants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.” JESUS showed us that when our brother sins against us, the value of that offence is just below $100 (One Hundred US Dollars) compared to the Billions that we owed God. So, we are expected to show mercy to our fellowmen, who will always offend us from time to time.

Matthew 5:7 “Blessed are the MERCIFUL: for they shall OBTAIN MERCY.” Peter the Apostle asked JESUS how often we should forgive our brothers, when they sin against us and JESUS said, 70 x 7 (490) times in a day (Matthew 18:22 “JESUS saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven,” which means an average of 20 offences per hour in a day. The instruction here is that, we must always be willing to forgive, no matter what they have done to us. Medical sciences have shown that those who harbour bitterness, unforgiveness, resentment and hatred are carrying negative and deadly viruses that will always affect their personal health. Unforgiveness is a poison that must be completely obliterated in our lives. When you refuse to forgive your brother or sister, you will be handed over to TORMENTORS (DEMONS).

Matthew 18: 34 and 35 “And his LORD was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. So likewise shall my heavenly Father DO ALSO UNTO YOU, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.” It is shocking how many Christians are being tormented by calamities that should not be their portion. Some Christians are experiencing strange happenings as a result of unforgiveness. Delete people’s offences. Let the Blood of JESUS wipe them out. Unforgiveness will hinder your prayer life. Many Christians are living in the “realm of unanswered prayers” because of unforgiveness. It is for your own good to forgive others. Let God fight for you as you forgive.

PRAYER: Father God, I come to You today with the hurts, offences and bitterness that I have experienced in times past. On the authority of Your Word, I freely forgive all those who hurt and wounded me badly. I let Go and I ask the Blood of JESUS to cleanse me and those who sinned against me. I ask for God’s mercy for me and those who sinned against me. From my heart, I willingly forgive all trespasses against me. I refuse to recount people’s mistakes, sins and trespasses against me. I trust God to always forgive people. I walk in God’s love. I will never carry negative virus of unforgiveness, hatred and resentment. Amen.
