Wife of the slain aide to Benue State governor, Mrs. Mlumum Adyororough, is rapidly recuperating from the shocking trauma and surgery she underwent following the gunshots she received together with her husband.

Gunmen on Sunday broke into the residence of the Principal Special Assistant on Knowledge, Economy and Investments to Benue State Governor, Dr. Tavershima Adyorororough, and killed him.

According to sources, the unknown gunmen around 12:30a.m. stormed his residence at Nyinma layout in Makurdi, Benue State capital, where they shot at the man and his wife. The deceased and family were said to have retired to bed when the assailants invaded the house and shot him dead while his wife was rushed to a hospital, where she is receiving treatment.

Unaware of her husband’s death, she yesterday persistently asked the deputy governor, Benson Abounu, who led members of the state executive council to the hospital, whether her husband is alive.

On sighting the deputy governor and his entourage, Mlumum asked: “I hope my husband is fine, I hope my husband is fine? I hope the attackers are not political thugs?” But each time she asked, the deputy governor would respond calmly that he is fine, he is well.

She commended the medical doctors at the teaching hospital for the prompt attention on arrival, which saved her life. The medical team in charge of the operation, who spoke on the grounds of anonymity, told journalists that quick medical response is the reason Mrs. Adyorough is still alive.

Abounu, while speaking with journalists, restated government’s commitment to stop politically motivated killings in the state. “My first reaction was that of shock in the sense that this killing is completely unnecessary, it is a very wicked act. This man was a gentleman who was loved by everybody, completely apolitical and never raised his voice against anybody. We were completely caught off-guard.
