Towards ensuring a safe environment for residents of Apapa local council, authorities have launched the Keep Apapa Clean and Healthy, A Must (KACHAM) corps to clear off heaps of refuse in all areas of Apapa. The council also flagged off 25 units of Braided Waste Bins and the Cleaner Apapa Squad (CAS).
Speaking at the launch of the initiative in Kazuma roundabout, the council chairman, Adele Elijah, observed that it was disturbing that despite enormous human energy and financial resources committed to evacuating refuse daily, the environment is still littered with heaps of dirt.
“Our aim is to complement the state to serve our residents by promoting a cleaner environment devoid of indiscriminate dumping of refuse and blocking of drainage. The KACHAM corps will ensure that residents keep their environment clean by promptly dumping their refuse in the braided bins, which would be strategically located,” he said.
According to him, the council in partnership with the newly formed Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), would help to achieve zero tolerance on indiscriminate dumping of refuse, illegal street trading, abuse of road verges, and insanitary open defecation in Apapa GRA, Ijora Olopa, Apapa central and Apapa Wharf/Creek Road, among other places.
Meanwhile, the chairman of Bariga Local Council Development Area (LDCA) of Lagos State, Mr. Kolade Alabi, has assured residents of the area that he would fulfill all his electoral promises.
Having record of all the promises, Alabi recalled one of those interactions with the Gbagada Phase 2 Residents Association. He said he had promised that if elected, he would implement a ‘socio-engineering template,’ aimed at making Bariga a council of excellence in the state.
He further disclosed that his action plan, which Gbagada Phase 2 community would benefit immensely from, include, but not limited to massive roads rehabilitation and construction in Bariga LCDA.
